Singgih Wiryono, Bagus Santosa, Jakarta – National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) Chairperson Andy Yentriyani says that as many as 34,682 women fell victim to acts of violence in 2024.

This was conveyed by Yentriyani during a press conference on synergising data on violence against women involving the Ministry for the Empowerment of Women and Protection of Children (PPPA), the National Commission on Women (Komnas Wanita) and the Service Provider Forum (FPL).

"The number of cases of violence against women recorded in the data systems of the three institutions throughout 2024 reached 34,682 victims", said Yentriyani in her opening speech on Monday August 12.

Yentriyani explained that the dominant form of violence is still occurred in the personal realm. The most common type of violence experienced by victims was sexual violence with 15,621 cases, followed by 12,878 cases of psychological violence and 11,099 cases of physical violence. There were 6,897 cases of other types of violence recorded.

"This figure is still a tip of the iceberg phenomenon from the problem of violence against women", she said. Yentriyani added that this data represents important capital to encourage changes in policies and behaviour in the community.

Yentriyani hopes that the availability of information related to cases of violence against women can improve shared awareness and encourage efforts to search for and provide solutions.

"The presence of the Law on Criminal Acts of Sexual Violence [TPKS Law] is a concrete and latest example of the importance of data", she said.
