While some may be hoping that next year will see a “healthier” electoral rivalry between incumbent President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and presidential hopeful former General Prabowo Subianto, if last year is anything to go by, they have little reason to be optimistic, with campaigning so far being dominated by fake news, slander and identity politics, rather than a healthy debate on the real problems and issues facing ordinary Indonesians.
