Kurniawan Fadilah, Jakarta – President elect Prabowo Subianto has expressed his commitment to fight for justice for workers and invited all parties to unite.

This was conveyed by Prabowo during an address by video at the Labour Party's 3rd anniversary event titled "Commemorating Three Years of the Awakening of the Working Class". Prabowo began by saying he will be a president for all elements of the people.

"I, after receiving a mandate from the Indonesian people and God willing, will be appointed as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia along with all elements of the Indonesian people", Prabowo said in a speech delivered by video at the Senayan Sports Stadium in Central Jakarta on Wednesday September 18.

"I am determined to maintain, manage and utilise all the nation's wealth so that it can be as big as possible and enjoyed by all the Indonesian people", he continued.

Prabowo also said that the struggle would be carried out through the economic and social fields and asked all elements of the Labour Party to unite and not become divided.

"With economic justice, with social justice, I believe the future for all the Indonesian people will be better. Viva the struggle, let us unite, don't become divided, only with unity between us, can we face all the challenges and threats that we may face together", he added.

As has been reported, the Labour Party has declared its support for the incoming government of Prabowo Subianto and vice president-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who will be inaugurated in October. This support was personally conveyed Labour Party President Said Iqbal.

"The Labour Party supports Pak [Mr] Prabowo Subianto's government as the elected president of Indonesia", said Iqbal earlier at the Senayan Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

Iqbal conveyed the Labour Party's six hopes to Prabowo. The first, urging a review of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation (Cipta Kerja). The second, he wants workers to be given a decent wage.

"Third, abolish outsourcing work systems. The fourth, agrarian reform and food sovereignty. We do not want imports during the harvest season, and return farmers' land that has been grabbed by corporations", said Iqbal.

Furthermore, he asked for honorary teachers and staff to become state civil servants (ASN). And finally, he asked Prabowo to realise free education.

"We will convey these six hopes to Pak President Prabowo and of course we will hear what he will convey in his national speech", he added. (lir/lir)

According to an article in Kompas.com, Prabowo was scheduled to give a one-hour speech at 3 pm and a large banner with an orange background typically used by the Labour Party reading "Welcome to the President of Indonesia President-Elect Prabowo Subianto" had been installed at the Senayan Sports Stadium. Kompas said that as of 4.30 pm Prabowo's entourage has still not arrived and many of the Labour Party members in the audience had begun to leave the stadium and had to be called back to listen to the video of Prabowo's greetings to the event and an apology for not attending.
