Jakarta – Protesters from the Preparatory Committee for the National Liberation Party of Unity (KP-Papernas) demonstrated at the offices of the Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare in Central Jakarta on Sunday November 26. They were demanding that the government pay more attention to the welfare of the people by increasing the national minimum wage to 3 million rupiah per month.
These demands were also taken up by protesters that work in the informal sector and people from urban poor communities. A number of protesters even brought young children.
The action started with a march from the Indosat Building on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat to the Ministry of People’s Welfare. As it was a holiday, no government officials met with the protesters. They then moved off to demonstrate in front of the State Palace.
