Jombang – Scores of student from the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII) demonstrated at the Kebonrojo Park intersection in Jombang, East Java, on Friday March 8.

In addition to commemorating International Women’s Day (IWD), the demonstration expressed concern over rampant sexual violence against women, particularly the recent “begal payudara” (breast robber) incidents which have occurred in Jombang recently.

The PMII is urging local police to immediately solve the case because aside from creating public anxiety, the mysterious actions of the man in sexually harassing women is tarnishing Jombang’s good name, which is known as a city of devout religious pupils.

“Right now Jombang is experiencing a crisis of respect towards women. We are asking that these cases of sexual violence against women be stopped”, demanded Imroatus Solihah, one of the demonstrators.

Secondly, added Solihah, all parties must investigate the case, the most recent of which took place on March 6. “Sexual harassment is happening, namely the ‘robbery’ of breasts in Ngoro”, said Solihah.
