Deti Mega Purnamasari, Jakarta – The People's Justice and Prosperity Party (Prima) was officially declared as a new party on the evening of Tuesday June 1.

The party was declared by several ex-central leaders of the People's Democratic Party (PRD) at the Usmar Ismail Film Centre in Jakarta.

Quoting from the state news agency Antara, declarator Prima Agus Jabo Priyono said that Prima represents the small and marginalised people and holds a political vision of prosperity.

"Prima, a party of the ordinary people, born in the midst of the swirling current of a hard national life", said Priyono, who was previously the general chairperson of the PRD.

Priyono said that Indonesian national life is hard at the present because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to this, it has economic problems, which according to Priyono, are far from the principles of humanitarianism and justice.

Aside from this, he continued, Indonesia is also experiencing an acute polarisation of national life and has lost its grand idea of building a life which is just, secure and peaceful. Because of this, he said, Prima is offering a number of work programs.

"First, Prima will fight for tax reform in Indonesia which is more fair", said Priyono. "Second, Prima will push the government to take advantage of resources to bring prosperity to the people", he continued.

And third, Prima wants to turn Indonesia into an advanced country which is strong and stands on one's own feet (berdikari) in terms of the economy, politics, society and culture.

The way to do this is by applying a participatory and clean democratic system and government through superior resources, equality and not being a follower of other countries.

"Prima will also promote national industrial independence, development of the modern sector, and strengthen micro, small- and medium-sized enterprises (UMKM) and cooperatives", he said.

Aside from this, Priyono also emphasised that his party wants Indonesia to become a country which is active in maintaining world peace.

Because of this, he also hopes that the Indonesian people will support Prima in realising these programs, especially during the 2024 general elections.

Prima itself, was established on July 20, 2020, was initiated by a number of PRD activists and social movements including trade unions, activists, Islamic religious figures, UMKM owners, professionals and youth groups.

During the declaration, Priyono also became the party's general chairperson along with Dominggus Oktavianus Kiik as secretary general.

Former National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Principle Secretary retired Army Major General Gautama Wiranegara meanwhile is head of the party's Advisory Board.

Prima's management structure for the period 2020-2025 is as follows:

  • Advisory Board Chairperson: R Gautama Wiranegara
