The 17 political parties are made up of the nine parliamentary parties that are automatically eligible to take part in the elections plus eight non-parliamentary parties that have passed the factual verification stage.
This was enshrined in KPU Decision Number 518/2022 which was read out by KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari during a plenary meeting at the KPU offices on Wednesday afternoon.

Related to the party's ballot numbers, a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) on Elections accommodates a proposal that the ballot number of political parties in DPR or parties that won seats in 2019 legislative elections can remain the same as the 2024 elections.
The proposal was initially put forward by PDI-P General Chairperson Megawati Sukarnoputri during her visit to South Korea and received a positive response from the parties in the DPR.
The Perppu even gives political parties in the DPR the freedom to chose if they want to continue using their 2019 election ballot numbers or take part in a draw to select a new one.
"The political parties which have already met the parliamentary threshold nationally for the election of DPR members in 2019 and have already been declared as election participants as referred to under Paragraph (2) can use the same election participant political party ballot number as the 2019 elections...", reads Article 179 of the Election Perppu which was issued on Tuesday December 13.
"... or they can take part in the designation of a electoral participant political party ballot number which is selected in a draw at a public KPU plenary meeting attended by representatives of the political parties taking part in the elections".
The PPP is the only political party in the DPR that relinquished its 2019 ballot number and obtained a new one for 2024. Conversely, all of the non-parliamentary parties that passed the verification process automatically took part in the draw for a new ballot number.
On August 1, some 40 political parties registered with the KPU to take part in the 2024 elections. During the registration stage, 24 parties were declared to have passed and went on to the administrative verification stage, 16 others dropped out.
During the administrative verification state, the KPU declared that nine political parties in the DPR and eight non-parliamentary political parties were entitled to go on to the factual verification state, six others dropped out.
