Jakarta – The Non-Government Organisation (NGO) Coalition for Election Justice (SAKAKAP) has found 121 cases of alleged election violations committed by the state apparatus between November 13, 2023 and January 31, 2024.
The monitoring of the electoral violations used several data collection methods including public reporting through case tracking platforms (CTP) based on Google Form and Desk Study.
In order to guarantee the validity of monitoring data, the Coalition used a triangulation technique by testing the data through a cross examination of three data sources: reporting, desk review results and data investigation by regional monitoring networks.
"There were 121 cases over three months, which jumped by almost 300 percent from the previous period, May to mid-November. 121 cases with 31 action categories", said the Executive Director of Setara Institute for Peace and Democracy, Halili Hasan, who represented the coalition on Wednesday February 77.
The most common violation committed was support by state civil servants (ASN) for a certain presidential and vice presidential candidates with 38 cases.
Then covert campaigning with as many as 16 cases, support for certain candidates with 14 cases, the politicisation of social aid with 10 cases and several other types of violations.
The perpetrators of the irregularities included the regional government civil servants, ministers, village and administrative ward heads, the national police, the TNI (Indonesian military), regents, mayors and sub-district heads.
"The most comprehensive perpetrator, which was extraordinary, was the president, who committed one of the irregularities. The others were ministers", Hasan said.
Hasan explained that out of the more than 100 cases, 64 of these allegedly benefited the election ticket number 2 of Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's eldest son Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
There were 18 cases that did not specifically benefit any particular candidates.
"The others benefited DPRD [Regional House of Representatives] candidates; there was a DPR [House of Representatives] and a DPD [Regional Representatives Council] candidate. The remainder benefited the political parties", he said. (yoa/DAL)
