Felldy Asyla Utama, Jakarta – Opposing the Omnibus Law on Job Creation (UU Cipta Kerja) was one of the issues articulated during a labour rally at the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue in Central Jakarta on Wednesday July 17.
This is also part of a legal challenged submitted with the Constitutional Court.
One of the calls delivered by a speaker at the action was a plan for workers to hold a national strike throughout Indonesia.
"If the Constitutional Court doesn't prioritise using its common sense, using its heart and empathy to decide on the Cipta Kerja Law and side with workers by cancelling the Cipta Kerja Law, then there will be no other course but to hold a national strike", said a speaker from the command vehicle.
"Ready for a national strike? (Ready), Ready for a national strike? (Ready)", continued the speaker igniting the spirit of the workers taking part in the action.
The Constitutional Court is currently holding hearings related to a challenge to the Jobs Law. Meanwhile, the agenda at today's hearing is to hear factual testimony from experts.
Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) President Said Iqbal will also be giving a testimony at the Constitutional Court building.
Three issues were taken up during the labour rally today. First, revoking the Jobs Law. Second, abolishing Hostum (outsourcing and low wages). Third, rejecting layoffs. Fourth, revoking Trade Ministry Regulation Number 8/2024 on Import Policies and Regulations. (rca)
