Dwi Bowo Raharjo and Alfian Winanto – Maria Katarina Sumarsih took part in a ceremony placing flowers on a symbolic grave during an action commemorating the 26th anniversary of the Semanggi Tragedy I at the Atma Jaya University in Jakarta on Wednesday November 13.
Sumarsih is the mother of Bernardus Realino Norma Irmawan or Wawan, who was killed along with 17 other others on November 11-13, 1998, when the military fired on students in Jakarta protesting a special session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Indonesian Military's (then called ABRI) dwi-fungsi (dual socio-political role).
Through the momentum of the 26th anniversary of the Semanggi I incident, the protesters asked the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to stop making efforts to whitewash the Semanggi I incident and other cases of gross human rights violations.
In addition to this, they also asked the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) and the Attorney General to improve their coordination in following up on the investigation dossiers into the case and take the case to the criminal investigation and prosecution stage as recommended in Komnas HAM's investigation report.
