Aida Ulim, Jayapura – The Journalist Justice and Safety Advocacy Coalition (KAKKJ) in Papua held another peaceful action on Monday February 10 in which they urged the Cenderawasih Regional Military Command (Kodam) Military Police Detachment (Denpomdam) to revealed the perpetrators of the Molotov bomb attack on the Jubi editorial office last year.
The action by the journalists together with human rights activists took place on Jalan Raya Abepura and began at around 11 am Papuan local time. The protesters unfurled banners containing criticism and photos of the alleged perpetrators recorded by CCTV. They also handed out flowers to road users.
Papua KAKKJ coordinator Elisa Sekenyap stated that the Papua Regional Police (Polda) have already handed the case over to the Cenderawasih Denpomdam. However, the culprits have still not been revealed.
"The Denpomdam has already formed an investigation team, but to this day they have not yet arrested the culprits. If the culprits have indeed already been found, immediately reveal it openly. Don't take so long!", said Sekenyap.
The firebomb attack on the Jubi editorial office in Jayapura took place on Wednesday October 16 last year. The attack caused fire damage to two cars parked in the Jubi editorial office yard.
"This (happened) almost four months (ago), but it has not yet been resolved (the handling of the case). The culprits were is clearly (recorded) on CCTV, but how come, they haven't been revealed yet?", said Sekenyap.
Agus Kossay, a participant at the action, stated that the Molotov bomb attack on the Jubi offices not only terrorised journalists, but also the ordinary people of Papua. He also urged the Denpomdam to arrest the perpetrators for the sake of law enforcement and justice in the land of Papua.
"The material evidence, and the trail is clear, they only need to reveal the culprits. If they are not quickly revealed, we will take to the streets (demonstrate) with even bigger numbers", said Kossay.
