Jakarta – Workers from the Labor Movement with the People (GEBRAK) will hold a demonstration to commemorate International Labor Day (May Day) on Wednesday May 1.

International Labour Day 2022 was commemorated by the Labour Party as a "May Day Fiesta" at the Bung Karno Sports Stadium (GBK) in Jakarta on May 14. An estimated 30-60 thousand workers attended the fiesta. Even if the lower estimate of 30,000 is used it shows an increase in mass mobilisations.

Jakarta – Hundreds of workers from the Confederation of United Indonesian Workers (KPBI) held a protest march on Saturday December 8 from the Farmers Monument in Central Jakarta to the nearby State Palace. During the action, the workers highlighted the problems of corruption and the government’s failure to resolve human rights violations.

Cianjur – Scores of workers employed at the beverage company PT Tirta Sukses Perkasa in Cianjur, West Java, are calling for an end to the involvement of the TNI (Indonesian military) in an industrial dispute they are currently embroiled in.

Mochammad Arifin, Cikarang – A day after the government announced an increase in fuel (BBM) prices, on Tuesday November 18 around 200 workers held a long-march from Gate 10 in the Jababeka 2 area of South Cikarang to the Bekasi regent’s office.

Arif Wicaksono, Jakarta – Labour organisations are proposing the establishment of an alternative political party that would take up pro-people programs for the Indonesian nation. Up until now, there has been no political party that has been capable of providing welfare for the ordinary Indonesian people.

Jakarta – The Joint Labour Secretariat (Sekber Buruh) and the Political Alternative Committee (KPA) are reiterating the importance of workers forming an alternative political party outside of the existing parties. According to Sekber Buruh, any administration that comes out of 2014 elections will not impact on the lives of workers.

Yogi Bayu Aji, Jakarta – The Political Alternative Committee Alliance (AKPA) held a protest action at the General Election Commission (KPU) offices on Jl. Imam Bonjol in Central Jakarta on Thursday March 13 calling on the public to oppose the 2014 elections.

After holding a meeting with trade union representatives on April 8, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono declared that the Draft Revision to Law Number 13/2003 on Labour that has already been circulating among the pubic is no longer valid.
