Farrah AM/ADV – House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI member Heri Gunawan from Prabowo Subianto’s Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) says that his party wants to focus on the protection and rehabilitation of sexual violence victims.
Because of this therefore, he opposes articles in the Draft Law on the Elimination of Sexual Violence (RUU PKS) that promote adultery and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) behaviour.
Nevertheless, according to HG as he is known, the RUU PKS is still a draft and can be revised. Gerindra does not support and will not vote in meetings on the law if there are still articles which legitimise adultery.
“We absolutely oppose it if there are articles which legitimise adultery, abortion, LGBT and the like which conflict with [the state ideology of] Pancasila”, he told Sukabumi Update after attending the signing of a petition opposing the RUU PKS at the Freedom Square in Sukabumi, West Java, on Sunday February 24.
Gunawan also insisted that LGBT behaviour cannot be tolerated because it conflicts with Pancasila and the law. Never mind that Indonesia is a nation which holds the values of religion, cultural norms and ethics in the highest esteem.
“The fact is that there is not a single religion, no humanitarian values, or expedient values anywhere which condones these behaviours. Even without the existence of UU [legislation], the public already understands LGBT and sexual deviance is not tolerated by religion”, he explained.
“We will continue to monitor all of the articles in the RUU PKS. Lest there be ones which conflict with Pancasila”, he said in short.
Recently a petition has sprung up on change.org opposing the ratification of the RUU PKS. The petition emerged because some people believe that the draft law is pro-adultery and LGBT.
