Kurniawan Fadilah, Jakarta – Labour group held an protest action in the Horse Statue area of Central Jakarta today demanding that Government Regulation (PP) Number 21/2024 on the Public Housing Savings (Tapera) program be revoked.
"The demand at the action today is for PP Number 21/2024 on Public Housing Savings (Tapera) to be revoked. We ask [here] in front of the Palace that Pak [Mr] President Jokowi [Joko Widodo] revoke PP Number 21/2024", said Labour Party President Said Iqbal at the Horse Statue on Thursday June 6.
Iqbal said that today's action was the start of a movement by the labour groups to reject PP Number 21/2024 on Tapera. He also said that they would pursue legal steps by submitting a judicial review on the regulation with the Supreme Court (MA) and the Constitutional Court (MK).
"Maybe next week a judicial review of PP Number 21/2024 with the MA and we are also preparing in the next two weeks to go to the MK to confront the law. The DPR [House of Representatives] [must] also take responsibility, don't wash your hands of it, they're the ones who make the laws also. Hopefully the DPR and the new government, the next president [president elect Prabowo Subianto] can listen to the conscience of the workers and the public, we reject the wage deductions for Tapera", said Iqbal.
"If it is not revoked, more actions will be held throughout Indonesia and involve a wider social component. So the actions will continue to expand throughout Indonesia, to 38 provinces, more than 300 districts and municipalities", he added.
During the action today, the labour groups demanded that PP Number 21/2024 on Tapera be revoked. This action began at 9.30 am.
