Farid Kusuma – Hundreds of students and workers from various different organisations in Jakarta took to the streets to commemorate International Labour Day or May Day today, Saturday May 1.

The Indonesian People's Front for West Papua (FRI-WP) and the Papuan Student Alliance (AMP) again launched actions in several parts of the country on December 19. This time the actions took up the theme, "Trikora: The Start of Indonesia's Colonisation of the West Papua Nation".

Surabaya – Protesters from the Papua Student Alliance (AMP) held a demonstration commemorating the declaration of West Papuan independence at the Negara Grahadi building in the East Java provincial capital of Surabaya on Tuesday December 1.

Jakarta – Scores of Papuans held a protest action in front of the Arjuna Wiwaha (Horse) statue on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat in Central Jakarta on Tuesday December 1. The action coincided with the day which is often linked to the commemoration of Papuan independence, December 1.

Jakarta – Demonstrators from the Papuan Student Alliance (AMP) have protested the police's actions in blocking them when they wanted to hold a rally at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday November 16. They have experienced the same problem during demonstrations in Papua.

Jakarta – A protest action opposing Law Number 11/2020 on Job Creation took place in the Medan Merdeka area of Central Jakarta on the afternoon of Tuesday November 10.

Jakarta – On Tuesday November 10 an alliance of social organisation grouped under the Labour Movement with the People (Gebrak) held a long-march from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) representative office on Jalan MH Thamrin in Central Java to the nearby Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat.

Jakarta – A series of demonstrations around the country against the recently enacted Omnibus Law on Job Creation took place on Tuesday October 20 to coincide with the first year of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's second term.

Jakarta – Trade unions and social organisations again held protest actions against the Omnibus Law on Job Creation on Monday October 12.

Protests against the law have been taking place since October 6 with workers and students not slackening the wave of protests despite the repressive actions of police last week.

Jakarta – Protests against the Omnibus Law on Job Creation have again heated up in several parts of country on Thursday October 8. Actions at regional administrative centres have been joined by thousands of people from university and high-school students to workers.

Budiarti Utami Putri, Jakarta – International Women’s Day (IWD) 2020 protesters have voiced their opposition to the Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation (RUU Cilaka). This opposition was as one of the demands taken up during an action today along the length of Jl MH Thamrin in Central Jakarta on Sunday March 8.

Jakarta – Coinciding with Mother’s Day which falls on December 22 each year, hundreds of women marched to the State Palace in Central Jakarta to articulate demands related to women’s issues saying that government policies are still discriminative and do not support women. The action took up the theme Women Heal the Nation.

Farih Maulana Sidik, Jakarta – Students from a number of different campuses held a demonstration in front of the State Palace in Central Jakarta to commemorate International Human Rights Day on Tuesday December 10.

The students, who marched from the nearby Horse Statue, were joined by workers, the majority of which wore red clothing.

Jakarta – The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) has released a report which cites educational institutions as one of the main actors in the violation of freedom of expression. Campuses, for example, have prevented students from taking part in protest actions.

Jakarta – Students have taken to the streets on the first day that the revised Corruption Eradication Commission Law (UU KPK) came into effect. The students are urging President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to issue a government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) to annul the law.
