Surabaya – Thousands of people from labour, student and non-government organisations who are part of the East Java Movement Against the Omnibus Law (Getol) have postponed a protest action which was planned to be held on Monday March 23 in order to prevent the spread of the corona virus (Covid-19).

Jakarta – The Confederation of United Indonesian Workers (KPBI) is urging the House of Representatives (DPR) and the government to halt deliberations on Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation given the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19). If the deliberations go ahead it will be the same as provoking people take to the streets to oppose it.

Ilyas Istianur Praditya, Jakarta – The Indonesian Trade Union Council (MPBI) has confirmed it will postpone mass actions against the Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation.

Bandung – Workers from the All West Java Labour Alliance held a demonstration against the Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation in front of the Sate Building (governor’s office) in the West Java provincial capital of Bandung on Monday March 16.

Protests against the Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation have also come from international labour organisations. Trade unions affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation Asia Pacific (ITUC-AP) are urging the Indonesian government to scrap the draft law which has already been submitted to parliament.

Narno, Jambi – On March 11 at least 500 people from a number of student and labour organisations held a protest action in Jambi, South Sumatra, to oppose the Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation or RUU Cilaka.

Ryana Aryadita Umasugi, Jakarta – Thousands of workers and employees from trade unions affiliated with the Jakarta Labour Movement (GBJ) held a protest action at the city hall in Central Jakarta on the afternoon of Wednesday March 11.

Jakarta – Despite supporting President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections, the Indonesian Confederation of Prosperity Labour Unions (KSBSI) opposes the Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation.

Pebriansyah Ariefana – Thousands of protesters opposing the Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation who arrived from the south-west and east of Sidoarjo have begun to pack into the streets around the Waru Airport in the East Java (Jatim) provincial capital of Surabaya.

Surabaya – An action by thousands of workers and students from the East Java Movement Alliance Against the Omnibus Law (Getol) has urged President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to immediately cancel the deliberations on the Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation. They also threatened that they will hold even larger protests if he does not.

Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Security, Politics and Legal Affairs Mahfud MD says that opposition to and negative views about the Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation are because they have been “politically cooked up” (gorengan politik).

Yogyakarta – Hundreds of students from campuses in Yogyakarta and Magelang, Central Java, held a long march on Monday March 9 to Jl Gejayan just north of Yogyakarta city to hold a Gejayan Calling (#GejayanMemanggil) action against the Draft Omnibus Law on Job Creation.

In response to this, a number of organisations in the Central Java city of Yogyakarta took to the streets on International Women’s Day (IWD) to call for equality and gender justice.
