Akbar Ridwan – Demonstrators from the Workers Movement with the People (Gebrak) held a protest action in front of the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta on Monday. During the demonstration, the workers conveyed their opposition to the Omnibus Law on Job Creation which is currently being pushed through by the government.

Ade Tri – The presidential and legislative elections are over and the noise of the strident sound of the “festival of democracy” is no longer to be heard.

Bandar Lampung – Commemorating International Labour Day or May Day, around 600 workers from various different trade unions took to the streets of Bandar Lampung in South Sumatra on Wednesday May 1.

The workers concentrated at three points in the city: the Adipura Monument, Saburai Enggal Park and the Korpri North Teluk Betung Park.

Stepanus Purba, Medan – Hundreds of workers held a protest action in front of the North Sumatra (Sumut) governor’s office in Medan on Wednesday May 1.

Chandra Iswinarno – A commemoration of International Labour Day which was held at the Imbi Park in Jayapura, Papua, was only allowed to proceed for around 30 minutes. Nevertheless, the protesters who came from the Papuan Labour Movement (GBP) were still able to articulate a number of demands.

The commemoration of Labour Day or May Day in the Central Java city of Yogyakarta was centred at the Zero Kilometre point in front of the Central Post Office. Along with the hundreds of protesters, students from the Papuan Student Alliance (AMP) used the rally to call for independence.

Jakarta – Smoke from flares and fireworks marked the end of the commemoration of International Labour Day or May Day 2019 at the Arjuna Wijaya or Horse Statue in Central Jakarta on Wednesday May 1. The masses of workers from various trade unions and federations began to disband at around 5.15 pm.

Pramono Putra, Sidoarjo – Thousands of workers from various cities in East Java held a joint demonstration commemorating International Labour Day on the morning of Wednesday May 1. The action began with a convoy to the East Java governor’s office in the provincial capital of Surabaya to convey their demands at this year’s May Day.

Denpasar – Hundreds of protesters from the Balinese United Labour Movement (GBBB) alliance commemorated International Labour Day or May Day with a peaceful action in front of the Bali governor’s office in the provincial capital of Denpasar on Wednesday May 1.

Friski Riana, Jakarta – The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) will not join other workers rallying in Jakarta during the commemoration of May Day or International Labour Day on May 1.

Datuk Haris Molana, Lhokseumawe – Protesters from the Malikussaleh University Law Students Alliance held a commemoration of May Day in Lhokseumawe, North Aceh. The demonstrators called on the government to revoke Government Regulation Number 78/2015 on Wages and to prioritise local workers at state-owned companies in Aceh.

Jakarta – Hundreds of workers from the Confederation of United Indonesian Workers (KPBI) held a protest march on Saturday December 8 from the Farmers Monument in Central Jakarta to the nearby State Palace. During the action, the workers highlighted the problems of corruption and the government’s failure to resolve human rights violations.

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – The Confederation of United Indonesian Workers (KPBI) says annual minimum wage increases under the President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo administration has continued to decline every year.

Yasmine Aulia, Semarang – Thousands of workers packed Jl. Pahlawan Semarang in the Central Java provincial capital of Semarang on Tuesday May 1 where they had gathered to protest in front of the governor’s office.

Avirista Midaada, Malang City – Hundreds of workers in the East Java city of Malang commemorated International Labour Day on May 1.

Agung DH – Commemorations of May Day or International Labour Day on Tuesday May 1 in the North Sumatran city of Medan were enlivened by entertainment centred at the Youth Arena on Jl. Sutomo Ujung Medan.

Budi Warsito – The commemoration of Labour Day or May Day in the Central Java city of Yogyakarta was marked with a demonstration centred at the zero kilometre point in the centre of the city.
