Social media was abuzz Tuesday after President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo announced six new cabinet ministers. While rumors of a reshuffle had been doing the rounds for some time, the announcement of one particular name left many scratching their heads.
One of the new ministers is business tycoon Sandiaga Uno, who was presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto's running mate in the 2019 presidential elections. Uno replaces Wishnutama Kusubandio as the new Tourism and Creative Economy Minister. Prabowo had already joined the so-call "Onward Indonesia Cabinet" much earlier as defense minister.
The 2019 presidential election was marred with intense enmity between their die-hard supporters. The partisan camps even earned the pejorative nicknames "cebong" (tadpoles) for Widodo's supporters and "kampret" (bats) for Prabowo's. Social media was filled with endless bickering, which continues to this day.
While some may see the reconciliation as a happy ending, many others would have been left wandering what the point was in holding the 2019 presidential elections in the first place, given it ended with the two rival pairs both in the same administration.
